A month ago I started having a dull ache in my pelvic area on the right side the pain was minimal so I didn’t give it much thought but three weeks later the pain increased and I had difficulty walking or trying to sit. So I went to my family doctor and she said it was an ovarian cyst and told me if the pain persisted for a few more days to get an ultrasound done. The pain decreased some after three days so I decided against the ultrasound. Until a week later (nine days ago) I felt like I was being poked in my belly button it was an odd sensation I didn’t think it was related though. The next night I felt like I was being stabbed in my right ovary and the pain went all the way to my back I was shaking, nauseated and I couldn’t walk across my living room without a lot of pain. Even trying to lay down was bad but once I was laying down and still it would calm down until I would move. I also had rectal pain my arm broke out into a rash (I don’t know what was up with that!) That night I slept for almost 15 hours. When I woke up I googled ovarian cyst and I read up on what the symptoms are of a ruptured cyst and it sounded like what I went through so I set up an appointment for the ultrasound for that day and called my doctor ASAP. She said it sounded like it had burst and told me to proceed with the appt and she would let me know the results. While I was getting the ultrasound I felt a shooting pain go up my abdomen. It was a late appt on a Friday so I didn’t get the results until Monday afternoon and they said that I had some gas over my right ovary so they couldn’t see it at all. I only had the pelvic sonagram not the transvaginal. I know this pain was NOT gas! and I have had this pain for 5 weeks. I told my doctor I was still experiencing pain although not as bad as that one night and that I had been sleeping a lot. Also, my lower back and right leg were hurting really bad for several days after that episode. All of last week I fell asleep as soon as I got home from work I have an uncontrolable tiredness and when Friday came around I slept for 14 1/2 hours then the next night I fell asleep at 10pm. I would have slept longer but my sister kept waking me up telling me to do my homework (I go to college once a week after work). I still feel exhausted…my doctor suggested I go to an obgyn but I feel uncomfortable going to one. Any advice?
Oh and I’ve had my period for ten years and it has always been consistent never any problems but the last period I had ended three days earlier than normal.

I have PCOS and last night my husband and I were having sex and stopped for a second and I got this horrible pain the right side, around my ovary and my uterus. The worst part lasted about an hour, even though I am still in some pain. It was bad enough I thought I was going to have to go to the hospital.

I felt like I needed to use the bathroom but it hurts to even try, every time I sit down it hurts worse, its hard to urinate because there is alot of pressure and pain when I try to bear down in the least, when I stand up it pulls and hurts. It still aches inside, but there are sharp pains in that feel like my cervix/vagina. I am thinking it is a cyst that ruptured.

So getting to my question, has anyone ever had an ovarian cyst rupture? What were your symptoms? OR on the other end, has anyone ever had ovulation pain with PCOS this bad?
Also, I am going to the doctor, I am trying to ease my mind before then.
Thank you all so much. All of your answers are great and made me feel alot better (not physically though LOL)… this is going to be tough one to pick the best answer.

Hi!

Ever since I could remember, I have always had irregular periods. There would be times where I would only get my period three times a year. My weight has been up and down and I have slighty more body hair than girls my age have. There are also dark patches on my skin (on the back of my neck, under my arms, and on my chest). One of my friends said I might have PCOS b/c my symptoms are the same as hers. When I went to the OB/GYN, I got my blood tested and it showed that my FSH/LH ratio was off. An ultrasound didn’t show much but I did see some black matter.

Over the weekend, I felt a sharp and very painful twinge on the lower left side of my abdomen. This pain went away after an hour, but the next day it came back. I have been experiencing these random bouts of pain for a few years.

Could this pain be from a ruptured cyst? At 19 years old, i’m am not trying to have children at this point in my life, but I want to make sure that everything is working and intact when I decide to start a family.
@Samantha and Ane:

We were coming back from a trip and I was sittting in the car and this wave of pain just overtook me and I wasn’t able to sit up for about fifteen mins. I just scheduled another appt. with my doctor, so hopefully I will get some answers.

hey fellow preggers,
for starters this is my second baby and on november 26th i was in the ER with severe abdominal pain and im 6 weeks 3 days pregnant but anyways they did an ultrasound and said that i had a cyst rupture on my right ovary and their was fluid surrounding it. they couldnt see the baby just the gestational sac and my HCG levels are 600 i was under 5.5 weeks at the time. i dont know much about cysts i wasnt even aware that i had them until they ruptured, my discharge papers were talking about a threatened miscarriage and i was put on work restricitions and lifiting limits of ten pounds my first son is 28 pounds though. anyhoo so i just looked it up today online and its talking about how ovarian cysts ruptures are the most dangerous thing next to the cysts being cancerous. the only problems i seem to be having right now is severe lower back pain. has this happened to anyone else? if you can tell me your story what happened if the baby turned out okay it would be amazing! im really worried about this baby because this pregnancy is completly different then my first i really dont feel pregnant i have a lot of symptoms but i really took the prego test for giggles i dont know how to explain it other than i just dont feel pregnant. by the way i do know every pregnancy is different but, i just want to know if any of your second babies were like this too? maybe give me some peace of mind!
thank you guys in advance i really appreciate your help!

About four months ago, I began to experience period irregularities accompanied with this dull ache in my lower abdomen, and when pressure was applied it hurt horribly. The pain got worse and worse and then finally it was like something blew up! My mother, who is a nurse and has suffered from polycystic ovaries her entire life, felt of my right ovary and told me I had a cyst there that probably burst. Indeed it had. The pIain went away and everything went back to normal.

About four days ago, I began to experience lower back pain as well as localized pain over my right ovary again. I have missed my period so far this month, but I am NOT sexually active, so I know I CAN’T be pregnant. Well, I felt of the area around where the ovary is, and I could feel a large lump that hurt especially bad when pressure was applied. My mother confirmed that there was somethig about the size of a large egg on my right ovary, while my left one is fine. I walk around with my ride side feeling tense and heavy.

My question is, is it normal to have horrible back pain, period misses, and mild nausea with an ovarian cyst? My last one was quite similar, but it was much smaller and it ruptured. And what other symptoms should I look for? And can a lot of stress only help a cyst to form? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I am 24 years old, in college and broke. I have been diagnosed with endometriosis and ovarian cysts since a lap in 2007. I have had many ruptured cysts, enlarged tipped uterus due to polyps, and heavy bleeding that forces me to change pants almost three times a day. I just finished hormone replacement therapy with depot lupron for six months with hot flashes, nausea, and migraines the whole time. After many ER visits and numerous tests including being scoped by a GI doc, my choices are limited. My ob-gyn says even if i get a hysterectomy I may still have endometrial pain due to the growth on my intestines and bowels. I could have a baby, but I am not married, and I am majorly poor due to not being able to work. I just want a life back. Should I just go ahead and get it over with and not have children? (By the way I am an early childhood education major and children are my passion. Go figure.)
I am from a small town where all of my friends are married and having children. They tell me there is nothing like holding your child. I’m afraid I will never experience this. This is a life changing experience and I have been known to be impulsive. What if I do it and regret it?

I don’t really understand all of this, but on top of these problems I was recently diagnosed with diverticulosis (diverticulitis flare up caused the concerns for diagnosis). I am 26, have had one child four years ago, smoke cigarettes(I know it’s no good so don’t dwell on this issue for I will not pay attention to your response because it has nothing to do with these problems.. Dr.s words), but for the most part don’t know much about family medical history.
As for discovery of cyst: Sun. 5:30pm a severe lower middle abdominal pain stopped me in my tracks. Held my lower stomach and couldn’t move without more pain. Coughing, sneezing, or laughter caused the pain to worsen. I reclined myself slightly to calm myself (I felt as though I were to pass out due to the pain) which seemed to help a little. Took two 800mg Motrin when home then took a xanax to go to sleep. Took another xanax after I couldn’t sleep for two hours, due to pain worsening during movement which caused me to stay awake. Finally fell asleep at 2am but woke still to any movement.
Next morning couldn’t take the pain anymore and resulted in a visit to ER: CT scan and blood work issued.
Results: Quack said an ovarian cyst burst. Had cysts on ovaries and needed to follow up with OB doc.
I did. OB said: You have an ovarian cyst on left ovary 4.5 cm, and a fluid blockage in right fallopian tube, but does not indicate a cyst burst. Then proceeded with pelvic exam. I had extreme pain when OB pressed directly upward (towards belly) and said this indicates a uteran infection. What??? How does this happen? Are any of the other issues related to these symptoms? He issued an ultrasound following ten days of antibiotics (IOW: watchful waiting). My white blood cell count was 1500 at the ER, but the doc didn’t prescribe me antibiotics… My GYNO did. The ER doc disregarded me almost entirely and gave me a diagnosis without adding it in the write-up. The discharge papers he gave me was info on smoking, diverticulitis, and ovarian cyst bursts.I do know however that my grandmother had a full hysterectomy around mid-twenties and my mother had a partial at mid-thirties. She couldn’t tell me any disease that they had, only that they had to have it done. My gastroenterologist is concerned because I am too young to have these issues. Is there a disease or something that can be related to these issues? All of my issues are in my lower abdomen and the diverticula and cyst are resided to the left side of lower abdomen. However, my right fallopian tube is fluid blocked?…And I have an infection in my uterus?… Please, anyone with knowledge or experience please give me some kind of info on these rapidly arising problems. Thank you much!
Other Info: Married in devoted relationship for 6 years.

I am 15. I have had 4 ovarian cyst (the size of baseballs) rupture in the past 11 months. I have been having symptoms for the past couple weeks. Like I look like I am pregnant, I have sharp pains in my pelvic area and I have lost appetite… I have looked on a couple websites about ovarian cancer symptoms and I go to an adolescent gyn. and I am going to set up an appt. with them but i have wondering if I, at my age, should be concerned about this being a possibility because the women who have this are in menopause… or I have something else…
My great-grandma had breast cancer.
