ovarian cysts? pregnancy? negative test.. all the signs of ovarian cysts?

Hi all,

I found this post on yahoo answers and thought it so typical of the problems and fears women have when they are experiencing symptoms of ovarian cysts. Let me know if you have experienced similar fears.

What next to think? Is this ovarian cysts or pregnancy complication or what.

For three weeks or so i have been experiencing general pregnancy . I have also been on the short for a year and have never had any sign of blood. earlly this week i started 2 have light vaginal bleeding, It lonly asted about 3 days. I have taken 2 tests that came out negative. then in the last two weeks ive been experiencing severe left abdominal pain than began spreding across the entire pelvic region as well as intenese cramps. For a couple days the pain pretty much dissapeared give or take a few minor pains. I went to the doctor on wednesday and the pain had become intese again. I told her of all the symptomns..(pain during/after sex and tenderness whiping after using the restrrom , too) she gave me a UTI test – negative then i got a vainal ultrasound. I wont know the results till tuesday. Which seems like a whiel to wait if this coudl be serious. Has anyone experineced somthing like this before? what should i do?
Missed cycle ( i havent has a cycle in a year)
implantation bleeding (i possibly had this.)
Tender breasts (some what)
darkening of areolas
fatigue/tiredness **
nausea **
Backaches **
headache ** (severly right be hing my right eye, over and over since i have been sick)
Fequent urination **
Constipation **
Food Cravings
mood swings**
Depression like symptomns **

correct me if i missed anything

I also has TSS 3 years ago and have since had several abdominal problems and UTI’s However nothing like this before..

my grandmother recently was found with a cyst and when they removed it they found out she had full blown cancer.. This scares me but its also the only perosn i know of with a cyst of any sort in my family. Also my doctor didnt do the ultra sound.. i was sent to the Out patients in the hostpital.. i have been there before over a serious injury and was sent home and told i would get results in a couple of days.

Signs of ovarian cysts are down right frightening

…

This is a response most women have when they think they are experiencing symptoms of ovarian cysts.

Corpus cyst or one of the different types of cyst you may suffer from. These are typically found in women who are pregnant. They develop after the egg has already been released from that follicle. However, for some reason the follicle does not go away like it’s supposed too. While these cyst may simple vanish after the next menstrual cycle, they may not and can continue to grow larger. Sometimes these have been found measuring up to six centimeters in diameter. This type of cyst may or may not have symptoms that are associated with these.

Bursted Ovarian Cyst: Symptoms of Bursting Ovarian Cyst

Ovarian cysts are small sac-like structures that are surrounded by a thin membrane and develop within or on the surface of an ovary. They are usually benign and do not cause any problem, but sometimes they grow in size and then rupture, which is known as the bursting of ovarian cysts. To know about the symptoms produced by bursted ovarian cysts, read on.

Bursted ovarian cyst refers to the bursting or rupture of cysts or small fluid filled sacs, that develop within or on the surface of the ovaries. Women have two ovaries that release an egg in each month during their reproductive age. An egg is usually formed within a small structure, known as a follicle, which usually bursts when the egg is released. An ovarian cyst is developed when either the follicle fails to release the egg or when even after releasing the egg, the follicle does not burst. Generally, the follicle fails to release the egg due to a deficiency of the luteinizing hormone.

Most of the ovarian cysts are small and harmless and do not cause any problem. Sometimes they shrink in size and then subside on their own. However, in some instances, ovarian cysts may grow in size and ultimately burst, releasing blood and other contents accumulated within them. Such a situation may produce some severe symptoms that demand immediate medical attention.

Symptoms of Bursted Ovarian Cyst

An agonizing pain in the lower abdomen and excessive vaginal bleeding not related to menstruation, are the common symptoms of a bursted ovarian cyst. The severe pain can be felt throughout the entire pelvic region and is generally greater than the normal pain experienced during regular menstruation. The pain results due to the spilling of the contents of a cyst in the abdominal cavity caused by its rupture, which cause inflammation and irritation of the peritoneum (the thin lining of the abdominal cavity). The pain will be more severe if the cysts are very large in size. Vaginal bleeding would also be heavier than usual menstrual bleeding.

Irregular menstruation is another important symptom of a bursted ovarian cyst. So highly irregular periods with associated problems or complications like excessive weight gain, acne and emotional disturbances should be immediately attended to. As some of the ovarian cysts grow in size, they put pressure on the bladder, and may produce symptoms like a frequent urge to urinate and discomfort, while actual bursting of a cyst can cause acute pain during urination. Some other symptoms of bursting ovarian cysts are nausea, vomiting, dizziness and fainting. A woman may also experience some physical changes like weight gain and breast tenderness, in the case of ruptured ovarian cysts.

There can be several reasons behind the development of ovarian cysts. As for example, factors like genetics, irregularity in the normal ovulation process, a poor diet that contains large amounts of carbohydrates, junk foods and sugar in place of fresh vegetables and fruits, a weak immune system and resistance to insulin, are believed to play a crucial role in the development of cysts in the ovaries.

The treatment for bursted ovarian cysts depends on the severity of the condition and size of the cysts. However, bursting of the cysts is not a life threatening condition. Nevertheless, it needs immediate attention, as the formation of ovarian cysts can sometimes lead to infertility. So if you have observed any of the symptoms of ovarian cyst, then it is time to consult your physician to avoid agonizing pain, bleeding and the several other complications associated with the bursting of ovarian cysts.

Ovarian Cyst Signs – Symptoms of Cysts on Ovaries

The symptoms associated with ovarian cysts may vary based on the type of ovarian cyst . Although the majority of ovarian cysts are asymptomatic, there are few which can be potentially dangerous. Read on to know more about the symptoms associated with these cysts.

Ovarian cysts are fluid-filled sacs which develop on or within the surface of the ovaries. Afflicting a majority of women at some or the other point in their lifetime, most of these cysts are benign and cause little or no discomfort. As a matter of fact, a majority of cysts on the ovaries disappear with no treatment. However, 15% of the cysts may be malignant and can pose the risk of cancer. The cause of ovarian cysts is linked with the process of ovulation and the formation of the cyst-like structure known as follicle in the ovary. Once the egg is mature, the follicle ruptures to release the egg. The follicle now changes into the small sac-like formation known as corpus luteum which disintegrates if there is no pregnancy. Ovarian cysts occur in situations where the follicle does not rupture or where follicular development into a corpus luteum is arrested.

Based on the reason for its growth, ovarian cysts can range from being completely harmless to life-threatening. Ovarian cysts can be classified into five common types:

Functional Cysts: Also referred to as simple cysts, functional cysts are benign cysts which are a part of the normal process of menstruation and ovulation in women. Most of the times, they disappear over the course of two to three periods.

Dermoid Cysts: Ovarian cysts which can develop mature skin complete with hair teeth and bone, are referred to as dermoid cysts or ovarian neoplasms. Developed from the ovary’s germ cells, they may be present at birth but are not noticed until adulthood.

Cystadenomas: These refer to the cysts that develop on the outside of the ovary, causing pain if they are particularly large.

Endometriomas: These cysts gradually grow as a result of bleeding of the misplaced endometrial tissue after successive menstrual cycles.

Polycystic Ovaries: The polycystic cysts are filled with unreleased eggs that continue to grow. They are caused when the follicles do not erupt from the ovaries.

Symptoms of Ovarian Cysts

Ovarian cysts which are small and benign will disappear within 4 to 8 weeks, however in cases where the cysts continually grow larger, the symptoms may be experienced for longer. The noticeable ovarian cysts’ signs are:

Pressure and pain in the abdomen.

An aching lower back and upper legs.

Tenderness of the breasts.

Painful sex.

Pressure and pain on the bladder and rectum.

Problems passing urine.

Gain in weight.

Irregularity of the menstrual cycles or abnormal uterine bleeding or spotting.

Nausea and vomiting.

Infertility.

Fatigue.

Headache.

Strange muscular pain in the ribs.

Development of nodules that feel like bruises, under the layer of skin.

However, the ovarian cyst signs are fairly generic and can be confused for endometriosis, ectopic pregnancy or pelvic inflammatory disease. In more serious cases, the symptoms may include dizziness, fatigue, fever, severe abdominal pain and a shortness of breath. In such a case medical help should be solicited immediately. The doctor would then evaluate the cysts based on size, shape and composition, to evaluate whether they are potentially dangerous or not. The common procedures for diagnosing cysts on ovaries, include pelvic ultrasounds, laparoscopy and CA 125 test. Once the cyst is diagnosed, the treatment options may range from bidding time to see if it dissipates, to surgery in extreme cases. There are many factors which have an influence on the growth of cysts on ovaries, from genetics to insulin resistance and even a poor diet. As a safe side, regular checkups by physicians are recommended.

Symptoms Of Ovarian Cysts

Ovarian cysts are fluid-filled sacs that develop on the ovaries, the female reproductive organs that produce eggs. Women can develop ovarian cysts as a normal part of their menstrual cycle as the ovaries prepare eggs to release into the fallopian tubes. While many of these cysts are completely benign (not harmful to health), some ovarian cysts can be malignant, meaning they pose a danger to health.

Ovarian Cyst Symptoms

The majority of ovarian cyst symptoms are harmless ovarian cysts. It’s been estimated that up to ten percent of women of childbearing age can develop potentially dangerous or serious ovarian cyst symptoms.

Before getting into the actual symptoms of an ovarian cyst you need to learn exactly what it is. An Ovarian cyst is a fluid-filled sac found usually on the surface of an ovary.

Depending on where the cyst is and its size, it may put pressure on the bladder or bowels, making you need to go to the toilet more often.

In rare cases, ovarian cysts can cause abnormal amounts of hormones to be produced. This can affect your periods, and speed up or change the way your breasts and body hair grow.

Rupture of the cyst. A large cyst is associated with moderately severe, sharp, boring and constant pain that increases while the cyst enlarges to the point of rupture.
Twisting of the cyst around its blood supply. A twisted ovary can be severely painful as the blood supply to the ovary diminishes.

Long-term pelvic pain during menstrual period that may also be felt in the lower back

Pelvic pain after strenuous exercise or sexual intercourse

Pain or pressure with urination or bowel movements

In many cases there are no symptoms what so ever. However if symptoms do occur a female will feel:

A swollen abdomen.
Increased pressure on the bladder or bowels (which means you will find the need to go to the toilet more frequently).
Painful sexual intercourse.
Irregular periods.

Pelvic pain shortly after beginning or ending a menstrual period.
Difficulty urinating
Abnormal uterine bleeding

Ovarian cysts are sometimes a feature of oth 1000 er conditions affecting the pelvic organs, such as endometriosis. They are occasionally seen in early pregnancy.

Very occasionally, an ovarian cyst is actually the earliest form of ovarian cancer. However, ovarian cysts are very common, and affect mainly women in their 30s and 40s, whereas ovarian cancer is uncommon and mostly affects women over the age of 50.

Direct pressure from the cysts on the ovaries and surrounding structures. This causes chronic pelvic fullness or a dull ache.
Bleeding from a cyst into and around the ovary. This causes more intense, sharp pain.

If you have had an abnormal cyst removed, you will also need to prevent a recurrence. The underlying problem here is not a simple hormonal imbalance, but abnormal cell growth. The approach in this instance is to ensure that your immune system is functioning properly, so that abnormal cells can be engulfed and destroyed. You’ll also need to optimise the function of your liver, which plays a part in the destruction of abnormal cells and foreign substances before they reach the bloodstream.
